Sculptra® Overview
Collagen is a type of protein found in the skin that maintains volume and fullness. Unfortunately, over time, the body makes less of it, leading to many of the external hallmarks of aging, such as wrinkling.
At the Laser Skin Care Center, we offer patients Sculptra® fillers to push back against this process, encouraging natural collagen growth. Over time, the skin gains fullness and volume, helping to restore youthfulness.
Sculptra® can be used to treat chin wrinkling, jowling, cheek hollows, gauntness, and deep furrows on either side of the nose. Most patients typically require between two and three separate treatments for the full effects to become apparent.
What is a Sculptra® Treatment Like?
Sculptra® treatment begins with an initial consultation. Here, we discuss your medical history, allergies, and any conditions that might affect your course of treatment.
Then, on the day of your appointment, a member of the Laser Skin Care Center team maps out all of the injection sites on your face and thoroughly cleanses the area. We may also apply a topical anesthetic to make you as comfortable as possible for the procedure. Sculptra® treatment involves making multiple small injections into the target areas.
Treatment is quick and you should be able to see visible differences in your skin almost immediately. Benefits will continue to accrue as the filler stimulates the production of collagen in your dermal layers over time.
Is There Any Recovery with Sculptra®?
Usually, there is little to no downtime associated with Sculptra®. You can often return to your usual activities immediately following treatment. If you require additional measures, we will provide instructions following your treatment.
Am I a Candidate for Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is generally well-tolerated and, therefore, suitable for the vast majority of patients. You may be a candidate if:
- You have deep lines on either side of your nose (sometimes called nasolabial folds or “smile lines”)
- You are experiencing jowling (where the cheek sags below the natural jawline)
- You have wrinkles on the chin (including marionette lines)
- You are experiencing a loss of cheek volume and fullness
- Your face has lost volume around the temples
Good candidates for Sculptra® should have healthy immune systems. They should not be allergic to poly-L-lactic acid, and should not have a history of keloid formation.
