What is Sofwave™?
Sofwave™ is a non-invasive, ultrasound-based skin rejuvenation treatment. During your treatment, one of our providers at Laser Skin Care Center applies a topical numbing cream for ninety minutes. After the numbing cream is removed, our provider uses a conductive gel to assist the handpiece device.
Sofwave™’ has a larger handpiece which allows less time spent in the office. You’ll feel gradual heating during your treatment, but the cooling agent prevents damage to the outer skin. Since Sofwave™ only reaches the mid-dermis, you have less risk of fat atrophy and no aftercare required.
How Does Sofwave™ Work?
Between sun exposure, pollution, and our diets, collagen, the framework for our skin’s volume, elasticity, and moisture, begins to deteriorate. Furthermore, our fibroblasts naturally slow down collagen production as we age. Collagen production naturally starts to slow in our 20s, but technological advancements have opened the doors to slow the process.
Sofwave™ uses fractional ultrasound technology to heat 1.5mm in the mid-dermis gently. The controlled damage to the tissue stimulates the body’s natural healing response to increase collagen production. As your collagen production increases, your skin regains its youthful complexion.
Is Sofwave™ Painful?
Before your treatment, our providers apply a topical numbing agent for maximum comfort. Sofwave™ has a cooling device with in-time temperature control to prevent damage to your skin.
You may feel the gradual heating against your skin, but before it becomes unbearable, the treatment in that area finishes. If you are nervous, you may request a sedative to help you relax.
What are the Effects Immediately After Sofwave™ Treatment?
There is no downtime or recovery period with Sofwave™. Clinical trials and patient testimonials have found no adverse side effects. You can return to your daily activities immediately after with no redness or swelling.
You may notice initial results as early as 8 weeks after your treatment; however, most patients see their ideal results after 12 weeks. Sofwave™ provides noticeable improvements in fine lines and wrinkles along with improvements in skin laxity.
How Many Sofwave™ Treatments Will I Need?
One of the main benefits of Sofwave™ is you typically only need one treatment session to see results. Skin tightening and wrinkle reduction typically last 8-12 months. Laser Skin Care recommends annual maintenance treatments for continual skin rejuvenation results.
You may combine your Sofwave™ treatment with other forms of skin rejuvenation like Botox™, dermal fillers, or microneedling to achieve your ideal results. During your consultation, please discuss your goals and options with our Laser Care providers.
Am I a Good Candidate for Sofwave™?
Patients may use Sofwave™ for preventative treatment in their mid-twenties, stimulating collagen production to slow signs of aging. Good candidates have mild to moderate fine lines and wrinkles, sagging on the neck, or mild jowling of the chin. Sofwave™ is safe for all skin types and tones.
If you have severe wrinkles or skin laxity, you may not be a good candidate for Sofwave™ wrinkle reduction.
