Chemical peels are topical facial treatments that remove damaged outer layers of skin on the face. Chemical peels (typically made from TCA or Glycolic Acid formulas) can promote smoother skin, even skin tone, and help diminish the appearance of wrinkles, brown spots, fine lines, pre-cancerous lesions, and acne scars. Chemical peels come in a range of formula strengths, from mild alpha-hydroxy-acids (AHAs) to the more aggressive tricho-loroacetic acid (TCA).

What Should I Expect From My Treatment?
Chemical peels are performed right in the office. Come to the office with a clean face, without any makeup. The chemical peel solution is applied directly to the facial skin and left on for a period. The chemical peel is carefully removed and skin is moisturized to help minimize side effects. Most peels are performed without any need for numbing agents through nerve blocks may be offered for more aggressive medium-depth peels. A hand-held fan and ice water-soaked gauze are provided for increased comfort.
A series of 3 glycolic acid peels can produce similar results to a year’s worth of using topical tretinoin (Retin-A) anti-aging creams.
*Individual results may vary
What Are The Side Effects?
Side effects can vary depending on the chemical peel formula. However, most patients can expect to see redness, peeling, and flaking. More aggressive chemical peels will lead to intense peeling and flaking for the first two weeks after the initial treatment. It’s important for patients to wear sunscreen and to stay out of the sun in the weeks after their peel.
How Soon Will I See Results?
Results can vary, depending on the strength of the chemical peel. For mild formulas, results can be seen as quickly as two to three weeks. Many people will return periodically for routine glycolic acid peels to maintain rejuvenated skin. For stronger, more aggressive formulas, patients may not see final results until four months after the initial treatment as the collagen remodels, though the brown spots tend to flake away after 1-2 weeks.
