Why Does Hair Loss Happen?
The main cause of hair loss is family history. If your relatives have lost some of their hair, then it increases the chances that you will too.
While hair loss can occur anywhere on the body, it most commonly affects the scalp. Thinning typically appears around the temples first, and then the crown.
The pattern that it takes after that depends on the hereditary factors of the individual. Some patients see circular spots of hair loss around the back of the head, while others lose virtually all their hair on their scalp. Eventually, follicles that produce hair go dormant, leading to balding.
Hair loss, however, can also result from hormonal changes, medications, supplements, and even genetics. Some people also see thinning of the hair during highly stressful life events – but this is usually temporary. And the type of hairstyles and treatments you get can also result in hair loss. Tight hairstyles can lead to a condition called “traction alopecia” where hair loss occurs in regions under the most tension.
Effective Hair Loss Treatments

One of the most potent of these is PRP (platelet-rich plasma) restoration. This approach involves taking a sample of your blood, extracting the PRP in a centrifuge, and re-injecting it into your scalp to encourage hair regrowth.
PRP works by increasing the concentration of growth factors in the target tissue. Injections into the scalp promote new hair and increase hair thickness. It is highly effective for hereditary balding (sometimes called androgenic alopecia).
Interestingly, PRP has been shown to be a powerful regenerative agent across the entire body. Research suggests that it is able to upregulate healing factors in a variety of tissues, encouraging healing and regeneration of things like the cartilage in the knee.
