Men and women experiencing hair loss have a drug-free, surgery-free treatment option to restore hair growth. PRP reenergizes hair follicles to promote hair growth. It has become increasingly popular as a hair rejuvenation treatment as people have learned more about the powerful abilities of PRP.

What is PRP Hair Restoration Treatment?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, an injectable treatment extracted from your blood. Your Laser Skin Care Center provider will take a sample of your blood and spin it in a centrifuge. This device causes blood to separate into layers. One of these layers contains plasma, the fluid part of blood, and platelets. Platelets form a key part of the body’s repair system, producing healing and growth factors.

How Does PRP Hair Treatment Work?

Your PRP hair treatment begins with microneedling. During this step, a handheld device creates tiny micro-channels in the skin of your scalp. These channels allow PRP to travel through the outer layers of skin and into the deep layers. When applied to the scalp, PRP triggers dormant hair follicles to become active and promotes new growth. Your hair grows thicker and healthier, with less shedding and breakage.

What to Expect After PRP Hair Treatment

When you leave your PRP hair treatment, your scalp may feel sensitive and mildly swollen. Any discomfort and redness will resolve within a day or two. Avoid washing your hair or applying any products for 24 hours. You can resume your usual activities, including exercise, at that time.

As your follicles become healthier and more active, your hair grows in looking thicker and stronger. You can see thinning areas look rejuvenated within about six months

How Many PRP Treatments Will I Need for Hair Rejuvenation?

The number of PRP treatments required for hair rejuvenation varies. Some people may see results after a few treatments, but most will benefit from the full series of treatments to achieve the desired results.

We recommend a series of three to six treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. You should also expect to have an occasional maintenance treatment every six months to keep your follicles active and healthy.

Can I Use PRP With Other Hair Treatments?

Since PRP contains no drugs or hormones, you can have PRP hair treatment at the same time as almost all other hair treatments. PRP can boost the results of:

  • Oral treatments
  • Topical treatments
  • Hair restoration surgery
  • supplements

If you have any questions about the safety of PRP with your current hair treatments, discuss them with your Laser Skin Care Center team before treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for PRP Hair Treatment?

Since PRP uses your platelets and plasma, PRP is safe for almost everyone. Good candidates for PRP are looking for effective long-term solutions to thinning hair. Men and women respond equally well to PRP hair restoration.
