Facial peels are among the most flexible and customizable aesthetic treatments. These chemical peels remove dull, lifeless skin to address many skin concerns. Your experienced aesthetics professional will choose the best chemical peel to address your concerns, then customize the treatment for your unique skin.

What is a Chemical Facial Peel?

A chemical facial peel uses a chemical solution to remove the outer layers of the skin. It reveals a smoother, brighter, and more youthful complexion. Your Laser Skin Care Center aesthetics expert applies the chemical peel to your face and leaves it on for a specific amount of time. They may remove the peel or apply a neutralizing solution when it ends. The type of solution used and the length of time it’s left on will depend on the peel being performed.

What is a Chemical Peel Good For?

Chemical peels can treat a wide variety of skin issues. The lightest peels provide immediate brightening without downtime, while the most intensive can treat deep lines and scarring. You may benefit from a chemical peel if you have conditions including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Acne scarring
  • Rough skin texture
  • Dullness
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne breakouts

With so many customizable options, chemical peels provide targeted treatment that works at the ideal level to treat your concerns.

What Types of Chemical Peels are Available?

Chemical peels fall into three categories based on the depth that they work in the skin.

Light Chemical Peel

Light peels usually use alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs). They penetrate only the dead top layer of the skin, resulting in a gentle exfoliation that can help improve the texture and tone of the skin. You can often have light peels every few weeks as needed.

Medium Chemical Peel

Medium peels are made from a stronger AHA, BHA, or trichloroacetic acid (TCA) solution. They penetrate deeper layers of the skin. Used for more significant skin issues, these peels often provide maximum results with treatment every three to six months.

Deep Chemical Peel

Deep peels use a high concentration of TCA or phenol. They penetrate the deepest layer of the skin and can address more severe skin concerns, such as deep wrinkles and significant scarring. Deep peels should only be performed by experienced professionals like your Laser Skin Care Center team and are only performed once.

Is There Any Downtime With Chemical Facial Peels?

The downtime required varies depending on the strength of your facial peel. Light peels have little to no downtime, and many return to work immediately. Medium peels may result in several days of redness and flaking. Deep peels can require several weeks of recovery, although the results are usually more than worth it.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are so customizable that we have one for almost everyone. Good candidates for a chemical peel want a flexible, effective treatment that fits their lifestyle. Chemical peels work safely on all skin types, including acne-prone and sensitive skin. Let your aesthetician know if you have ever reacted to an at-home or in-office facial peel.
