Are you looking to smooth out those pesky wrinkles and fine lines on your face? You’re probably familiar with Botox®, but it isn’t your only option to eliminate dynamic wrinkles. At Laser Skin Care Center, we also offer Dysport® to help you rejuvenate your appearance.

What is Dysport®?

Dysport® is an FDA-approved injectable treatment used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Like the well-known brand Botox®, Dysport® is made with botulinum toxin type A. This neuromodulator works by blocking nerve signals to the muscles in the treated area, which relaxes them and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Dysport® is similar to Botox® in its method of action, but it has a slightly different formulation.

The Dysport® injection process typically takes just 15 minutes. You can return to your regular activities immediately, though some patients have mild swelling or bruising at the injection sites. Most patients see results from Dysport® in two to five days.

What Can Dysport® Treat?

Neurotoxins are versatile treatments that can be tailored to each patient’s individual needs and goals. Like Botox®, Dysport® is primarily used as a cosmetic treatment but does have some medical applications for certain neurological conditions.

Dysport® is most commonly used to treat glabellar lines, also known as frown lines or “11s” between the eyebrows. It can also be used for other wrinkles and fine lines, such as crow’s feet and forehead creases. Sometimes Dysport® may be used on bunny lines, platysmal bands on the neck, or the upper lip to correct a gummy smile.

How Long Do Dysport® Results Last?

The results of Dysport® typically last between three and four months, although this can vary depending on the individual. After the effects wear off, patients can choose to receive additional treatments to maintain their results. These maintenance treatments can be scheduled every  few months to keep your results fresh year-round. Some patients find that they need fewer injections over time as their muscles become trained to remain relaxed.

Dysport® vs. Botox®

While Dysport® and Botox® are both injectable treatments that use botulinum toxin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, there are some differences between the two. Dysport® tends to spread more easily than Botox®, which can make it a good option for treating larger areas. However, Botox® may be a better choice for treating very specific areas, such as the corners of the eyes.

For some patients, Dysport® takes effect more quickly and lasts slightly longer than Botox®. Ultimately, the best choice between Dysport® and Botox® depends on the individual patient and their goals. Your Laser Skin Care Center provider will determine the best treatment for your needs during your consultation.
