The Laser Skin Care Center of Long Beach offers Botox® to diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Botox® has been FDA-approved for cosmetics since the late 1980s and is known to be one of the world’s safest cosmetic procedures.

What is Botox®?

Botox® is a neurotoxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is an injectable treatment that helps to create firmer, tighter skin by preventing muscles from contracting as often. The neurotoxin silences the nerves in the muscle to keep them from pulling on the skin. By blocking the muscles from moving as much, the skin becomes more relaxed, smoothing out the appearance of wrinkles.

How Long Does Botox® Take To Work?

While you can generally see the effects of Botox® a few days after treatment, most will see the full results after two weeks. How long it takes to see Botox® results can also depend on how deep the lines and wrinkles are. Patients can see the firming results quicker where finer lines are commonly seen, such as “crow’s feet.” Deeper lines commonly found on the forehead or between the eyebrows can take longer to see a visible reduction.

The full results last for approximately 3-4 months and gradually wear off. Routinely keeping up with injections helps train the facial muscles to contract less often, preserving your results.

Benefits of Botox®

Botox® can create an overall youthful, smoother appearance. It is an effective, non-invasive treatment that can:

  • Soften common skin aging concerns such as “crow’s feet,” lines between the eyebrows, and forehead wrinkles
  • Diminish deep smile lines
  • Lift the brows for a more rested appearance
  • Treat neck aging by relaxing the platysma muscles that can create vertical neck bands.
  • Improve facial symmetry

Am I a Candidate for Botox®?

Most people, regardless of age, can be good candidates for Botox® injections. You are a good candidate if you want a non-invasive procedure to treat moderate to severe wrinkles.

Ideally, you should also be in overall good health. If you’re in poor health, are afraid of needles, or have a botulinum intolerance Botox®, you should avoid it.

During your initial consultation at Laser Skin Care Center, one of our qualified dermatologists will always conduct an in-depth assessment and discuss your options extensively, so you feel comfortable with your choice.
