Torn earlobes are more common than you might think. This part of your ear is known for being very tough, durable, and stretchy. Hence, it’s where many people get their ears pierced, which can usually lead to torn earlobes. There are different types of earlobe problems you can face, but the good news is there are also treatments for this.

At Laser Skin Care Center, we strive to provide as many treatments as possible to target a full range of concerns. If you are suffering from a torn earlobe, we have a few solutions that will help you out.

Torn Earlobe Treatment

Torn earlobes can be repaired with a variety of treatments. Treatment options include surgical suture or dermal fillers. The treatment administered by our experts will depend on the severity of your earlobe tear among other factors.

In many cases, torn earlobes can be repaired with a few sutures and some local anesthesia. After a week, the sutures can be removed, and after a few months, earrings can be worn again.

You can also call upon some injectable treatments to help with thinned earlobes. Dermal fillers are commonly used by our team to add volume to a damaged earlobe, bringing back its volume and elasticity. Both Juvederm or Radiesse are suitable fillers for this treatment, delivering results for up to 12 months.

Secondly, you may require steroid injections if you have keloids on your earlobes. These are intense scars that harden and look like growths. The steroid injection softens them, at which point the earlobe can then be surgically removed and reconstructed. Be aware, this type of treatment is usually seen as the most severe and rare.

How Does a Torn Earlobe Happen?

Technically, a torn earlobe can happen due to just about anything. However, the most common reason they occur is down to piercings. When your earlobe is pierced, and you constantly wear earrings, the hole is naturally going to stretch and get bigger. The heavier the earring, the faster this will happen.

As you continue to wear heavy earrings or plugs, you stretch the piercing hole even further. Eventually, there will come a point where it can’t get any wider and simply splits. When this happens, you should seek out torn earlobe treatment as fast as you can. The longer you leave it, the more chance there is of infections or keloids setting in.

Am I a Candidate for Torn Earlobe Repair?

If you are currently suffering from a torn earlobe, you are most certainly a candidate for torn earlobe repair. Likewise, if you have keloids, you should undergo some steroid injections followed by the necessary surgery.

However, you can also be a candidate for torn earlobe repair if your earlobe is still intact. As mentioned earlier, we offer dermal fillers for thinning earlobes. This can help restore some vitality to your earlobes before they get thin enough to tear. In essence, you can receive treatment to prevent a torn earlobe in advance.
