Microneedling is an enormously beneficial treatment for a wide range of individuals, but not everyone is an ideal candidate for the procedure. A qualified healthcare professional at Laser Skin Care Center can assess your skin and help determine if microneedling is a suitable option for you.

What are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a cosmetic procedure that involves using a device with fine needles to create small, controlled injuries in the skin’s surface. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural healing process, resulting in various benefits for the texture and tone of the skin. These include:

  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Minimize pore size
  • Enhanced absorption of skincare products
  • Scar reduction
  • Non-invasive and minimal downtime
  • Suitable for various skin types
  • Reduced stretch marks
  • Long-lasting results

Who is a Good Candidate for Microneedling?

Microneedling should not be performed on skin that has active infections, including cold sores, active acne, or other skin conditions. If you are currently struggling with any of these conditions, we recommend waiting until your skin has healed before undergoing microneedling. Our team of medical doctors, licensed aestheticians, medical assistants, and LVNs can help assess your skin and get you microneedling-ready.

Individuals who have recently had excessive sun exposure, sunburn, or tanning treatments may need to wait until their skin has fully healed before undergoing treatment. Sun-damaged skin can be more sensitive and prone to complications during the healing process.

Individuals with a history of abnormal scarring, such as keloids or hypertrophic scars, should consult with their Laser Skin Care Center professional, as the procedure could potentially trigger more scarring in some cases.

Microneedling is often recommended for individuals with concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, and mild to moderate signs of aging. It can also be considered for treating stretch marks and improving overall skin texture.

How Long is Recovery from Microneedling?

Right after undergoing microneedling, your skin may display some redness, similar to the appearance of a sunburn. There’s also the possibility of mild swelling and minimal pinpoint bleeding. These post-treatment effects are entirely normal as your skin initiates its healing process and should diminish within 48 hours.

We suggest refraining from sun exposure for a period of about two weeks. Your skin becomes more susceptible following microneedling, and direct sun exposure has the potential to result in uneven pigmentation. Most patients feel ready to resume their regular routines within 24 hours of the treatment, with appropriate sun protection.

How Long Until I Can Wear Makeup After Microneedling?

The majority of patients can apply makeup a few hours following their treatment. However, if your skin displays any irritation, it might be necessary to wait for a maximum of 48 hours. If you decide to use makeup, our skincare experts recommend a gentle yet thorough cleansing of your face before going to bed to eliminate all traces of makeup.
