PR, what?! PRP stands for ‘platelet-rich plasma’ and don’t worry, it’s not as complicated as it sounds. PRP is used for improving all kinds of skin problems and overall, rejuvenating your skin to its youthful ways. Today, we’ll take a closer look at how PRP works and why its taking the beauty industry by storm.
How Does PRP Work?
At Laser Skin Care Center, we take skin rejuvenation to the next level. By incorporating this fantastic PRP technology with microneedling we’re able to bring our patients exceptional, long-lasting results.
PRP is a pretty simple 3-step process:
- Blood is drawn from your arm.
- The platelets are separated from the plasma by spinning it down in a centrifuge.
- The platelet-rich serum is applied topically to the face along with Microneedling or injected into the scalp for hair restoration or to the face.
PRP works because of the recovery properties of blood cells. Because the cells are your own, it’s a procedure that’s safe and effective for just about anyone.
What is Microneedling & Why Add PRP?
Microneedling is a cosmetic technique used to improve signs of skin aging such as wrinkles, spots, and sagging skin. In the traditional technique, the skin is pricked with a small roller-like device with the purpose to stimulate collagen production, a protein responsible for providing strength and structure to the skin.
If microneedling reduces wrinkles, spots, and sagging skin, what more could you want? The question remains, why add PRP? Adding PRP to microneedling has been shown to improve the healing process by reducing the time you will experience redness and swelling after a microneedling treatment. This is because one’s blood platelets are perfect for stimulating growth in cells and recovering skin damage.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of treatments you will need depends on your specific skin concerns and the type of treatment you had decided on. PRP injections themselves only take a few minutes. But if you are coupling them with other treatments, a visit might take longer overall. We estimate between 1-2 hours for PRP with another procedure and a total of 3 sessions overall. Not a lot of time, for the results that you can expect.
What Results Can I Expect?
Your skin is just as unique as you are and there is no cookie-cutter procedure that everyone will go through. However, patients who have gone through the PRP procedure, report the following results:
- Reduced wrinkles
- Plumped up, more fuller skin
- Less deep creases
- Improvement in complexion
- Reduction in acne scars
Over time, with continued treatments, microneedling with PRP can actually improve the overall quality of your skin. Your dermatologist will discuss your concerns, what skin issues you are suffering with, and the best way to treat them with the shortest recovery time possible during your initial consultation.
The doctors and PAs are excellent, caring, competent, and the support staff is helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant. Able to get an appointment quickly and moved through office efficiently. Love the cosmetic services available!!!
